Left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir completed his come back to Test cricket by taking the final wicket of the test match as Pakistan beat England by 75 runs on the fourth day of their series opener at Lord's on Sunday.
A quiet comeback by Amir, at least until he had the final word by taking the last wicket – on a pitch that did not suit him. There wasn’t too much conventional swing for him but he bowled pretty well, particularly at Alastair Cook, says former England captain Naseer Hussain.
Mohammad Amir, at the scene of his 2010 spot-fixing crime, ended the match when he bowled last man Jake Ball. Mohammad Amir made his international return after serving a five-year ban for match fixing.
In yesterday match during a crucial stage, Mohammad Amir came into the crease and clean bowled to Stuart Broad and gifted Pakistan a much needed wicket, at that stage England come under pressure. Nonetheless the thriller continued and Pakistan was just two wickets behind from the victory at that stage, England was 87 runs behind from victory. Further was to come and the very next ball Amir trapped Finn LBW but on Review the third umpire saw an inside edge and reversed the decision.
And then finally Amir came again and took the final wicket by cleaned up the stumps of No.11 Jake Ball and a historic victory at Lord’s was Pakistan’s in a test packed after some drama at lords.
Amir, who finished with two for 39, can now look back on happier memories at the ground where his world turned upside down six years ago when he was caught deliberately bowling no-balls against England in a Test, subsequently jailed and then banned from the game for five years.
