The Estate Office has started computerisation of the record of government houses in the federal capital, sources told Business Recorder here on Wednesday.
Sources said that the decision was taken, after Estate Office received complaints that many officials were illegally occupying the government accommodation.
According to sources, some of that reports also suggested that in various cases the government officials had rented out the allotted houses to the third party, flouting the rules.
The authorities were hopeful that the decision would help in producing desired results for preventing many malpractices.
Sources added that the move would also help the government to know that how many officials have been allotted accommodation according to the rules and otherwise.
It has already been reported that the successive governments in the past have allotted the government houses to the officials on political basis instead of the deserving people. Former Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Jamali has reportedly allotted more than 300 government houses to the officials of his liking, out of turn, during the last two weeks of his tenure alone.
In the first phase, the sources said, the Estate Office had started distributing a form among the allottees for the collection of the relevant data. The government servants had been asked to fill the forms, containing the name of the allottee, designation, department, date on which the accommodation was allotted to him/her and the date from which he/she was in the occupation of the flat.
After collecting all the forms within a week time, sources said, a database would be established to maintain the record of the government accommodation.
