Naguib Sawiris, Chairman & CEO Orascom Telecom, has pledged additional investment of one billion dollars for further expansion in infrastructure development in Pakistan. This was disclosed by CEO of Orascom Telecom, who called on Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz here on Thursday.
The prime minister was also apprised of new investment initiatives by Orascom Holdings in the cement sector and construction projects in Pakistan.
The press release said Naguib Sawiris made an exclusive call on Shaukat Aziz to felicitate him on his appointment as the country's premier. He expressed confidence in the leadership of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and was optimistic of Pakistan's future under his astute guidance.
In a special message after the meeting with the prime minister, he said: "Mobilink has already invested 750 million dollars in Pakistan's telecom sector, and is planning to amplify our commitment through further investment by bringing our total investment to the 1 billion dollar mark in the foreseeable future."
Sawiris said that Pakistan has witnessed an unprecedented revolution in the telecom industry in the last decade, and Mobilink is Pakistan's preferred cellular service.
It is engaged in developing infrastructure and expanding its services to the remotest areas of the country.
Talking about Orascom Telecom participation and investment in the cement and construction industry, he said, "We would also like to explore possibilities and invest in and modernise the cement sector and are already committed to a construction project in Pakistan, to facilitate overall social development in the country."
He further informed that Mobilink removed all long distance charges in Pakistan for its subscribers for constructive competition and an unprecedented boom in telecommunications and information technologies (IT) across Pakistan.-PR
