The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) will provide 2.1 million new wireless telephone connections in remote and rural areas of the country.
The remote areas and all villages across the country will be connected soon with latest telecommunication technology of 'wireless local loop' which will help establish links with international telephone network.
The Director, Telegraphs, Central Telecommunication Region, Lahore, Engr Abdul Rashid Butt told APP here on Sunday that during the first phase, under the crash programme, 2.1 million new wireless telephone connections will be given to people on 'first come first served' basis in the rural areas, adding it was first time in the history that all rural areas of the country will he linked with the world's best modern telecommunication network.
He said all PTCL regions dealing with rural areas have been given targets and wireless telephone network is being installed on war-footings in the exchanges of rural areas, adding a normal range of wireless telephone in rural areas will be around 20-km aerial distance.
Rashid Butt said the technology of this wireless system was the same as being used in cell telephone world-wide but only difference is that its range has been restricted to 20-km from the telephone exchange of its origin, adding people have started showing tremendous response to this pre-paid service before its proper inauguration.
Rashid Butt said in his region, during first phase, rural areas of Khudian Khas, Kot Radha Kishan and Pattoki of district Kasur, Basirpur, Depalpur, Haveli Lakha, Rajowal, Okara, Renala Khurd of district Okara, Arif Waia, Pakpattan Chichawatni, Sahiwal, Burg Wala, Noor Shah of district Sahiwal; Syedwala, Sheik hpura, Shariqpur, Narang Mandi will be provided wireless telephone connections.
