Punjab Minister for Health, Dr Tahir Ali Javed has said that government is spending Rs 94 million on the activities to control malaria in the province under malaria control programme (MCP).
He said this while addressing the delegations of people belonging to various walks of life at his residence on Sunday.
The minister told the delegations that the provincial government has evolved a comprehensive strategy for strengthening environmental health measures through community-based initiatives, practical strategies and capacity building activities at the local level.
The health minister said that the focus of the health department was on rural areas regarding the provision of modern health care facilities to the rural folk, therefore, sixty seven THQs in the province would be upgraded and doctors, lady doctors, equipment and necessary medicines would also be provided in these hospitals.
The minister said that government has provided many incentives to the doctors, nurses and healthcare workers. The stipend of trainee specialist doctors has been increased up to Rs 10,000 whereas specialist doctors have been offered Rs 25,000 per month salary for their appointment at THQs, he added.
The World Bank and other donor agencies would provide maximum assistance to the health department for the continuity and success of ongoing projects and for the launching of new initiatives in the province, he concluded.
