After a lengthy review of petitions, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Wednesday allowed all power distribution companies (Discos) to increase their tariffs, official sources told Business Recorder. Comparison of new and existing power rates of different companies, a copy of which was exclusively made available to Business Recorder, indicates that tariff for the consumers using up to 50 units would remain the same for all companies.
The rates for consumers of Fesco, Iesco, Gepco, Lesco, Pesco, Hesco and Quesco consuming up to 100 units would stand at Rs 2.57 per kwh whereas the rates of this category for Mepco consumers would be Rs 2.47 per kwh, which mean they would pay 10 paisa less than the consumers of other companies.
Tariff for consumers of all companies, except Mepco, using 101-300 units would be Rs 3.47 per kwh while the consumers of Mepco would pay Rs 3.57 per kwh, ie 10 paisa more than the consumers of other Discos.
According to the document, tariff for consumers using 301-1000 and above 1000 units would be different. Consumers of Fesco and Iesco would pay Rs 5.50 per kwh while Gepco, Mepco, Pesco, Hesco and Quesco would pay Rs 5.75 per kwh. However, the consumers of Lesco would pay Rs 5.25 per kwh, 50 paisa per unit less than other consumers.
Tariff for Commercial consumers of A-2 (for peak load requirement up to 20 kw) for all Discos would be different. Fesco consumers would pay Rs 5.75 per kwh, while consumers of same category of Iesco and Lesco would be charged at Rs 5.50 per kwh.
The consumers of Pesco and Gepco would pay Rs 6.00 per kwh whereas same category of consumers of Mepco, Quesco and Hesco would pay Rs 6.80 per kwh. For peak load requirement exceeding 20 kw, power rates for Fesco, Iesco and Lesco would be Rs 3.50 per kwh, while consumers of Quesco, Hesco, Pesco, Mepco and Gepco would pay Rs 4.00 per kwh.
INDUSTRIAL TARIFF: The consumers of all Discos of B-1 category would pay Rs 4.50 per kwh tariff for B-1 category would be Rs 3.25 per kwh for all companies, except Hesco whose consumers would pay Rs 3.50 per kwh. For consumers of B-2 (ToD peak), power tariff would be Rs 4.50 per kwh.
Power rates for B-2 (ToD off peak) have been set at Rs 3.00 per kwh for Fesco, Iesco, Gepco, Mepco and Pesco, while consumers of Hesco and Quesco would pay Rs 3.25 and 3.00 per kwh respectively.
Power rates for agriculture tube-wells in Punjab and Sindh would be Rs 2.75 per kwh. Consumers of NWFP would also pay Rs 2.75 per kwh while the rate for Balochistan would be Rs 3.50 per kwh.
Tariff for railway tracks would be Rs 5.75 per kwh for Fesco, Rs 6.00 Iesco, 5.50, Gepco, 5.75, Lesco 5.50, Mepco 5.75, Pesco, 6.00, Hesco 6.50 and Quesco 6.50.
Sources said that the Ministry of Water and Power has convened a meeting of Chief Executives of distribution companies and officials of Finance Ministry on Thursday and Friday to finalise the notification. Discos would be asked if they intend to file further review petition with Nepra.
"If all the Discos will agree on the determinations, the federal government will issue notification in a couple of weeks," sources said.
