DaimlerChrysler AG said on Thursday the US Securities and Exchange Commission has opened a probe into the auto-maker's compliance with the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which includes anti-bribery provisions.
The investigation follows a whistle-blower complaint filed with the US Department of Labour by a former DaimlerChrysler employee, the company said in a filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
The company said it was notified in August about the SEC's investigation and that it is co-operating.
The whistle-blower, fired earlier this year, also filed a lawsuit against the world's fifth largest carmaker in federal court last month, mirroring the complaint filed with the Labour Department, according to the filing.
That suit also included additional allegations related to other federal and state laws as a result of the employee's termination, the company said.
