Three people were injured on Sunday during a shootout between a suspected freedom fighter and policemen in a crowded market in Indian occupied Kashmir, police said. Panic gripped shoppers in the market in Indian occupied Srinagar's bustling Sheerwani Street when a suspected freedom fighter opened fire on a federal policeman injuring him. His colleague swiftly returned fire injuring the suspected freedom fighter.
"A customer also got hurt in the exchange," the police spokesman said.
All the three injured were rushed to a hospital, he added.
Several thousand customers, including women and children were browsing at stalls full of cheap clothes, books and rugs when the gunshots ripped through the air causing pandemonium.
"There were several people who were injured in the stampede," a policeman who witnessed the shooting said.
