Minister for Information and Broadcasting Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has urged the private production houses to make television programmes in accordance with the country's customs and traditions. He was addressing as the chief guest at an agreement signing ceremony between PTV and private production houses here at the PTV Headquarters. Sheikh Rashid said that PTV being a national organisation had the responsibility to telecast good quality programmes for the television viewers.
He hoped the agreement would encourage the private sector and introduce new faces on the mini screen. Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Anisa Zeb Tahir Kheli recalled that once PTV's dramas were famous world-wide and hoped this agreement would help it restore its lost image among the viewers. They would now be able to watch better quality programmes, she added.
Secretary Information Syed Anwar Mahmood termed the agreement as a positive step, which would promote the private sector. He also asked the private production houses to keep in mind the interests of the viewers while producing the programmes.
Managing Director, PTV, Arshad Khan said every effort would be made to continuously improve the standard of PTV programmes. He said a special team has been constituted, headed by former Managing Director PTV Aslam Azhar, to scrutinise the privately produced programmes before purchasing for PTV transmission.
