The Central Board of Revenue (CBR) has constituted 10 committees for the resolution of disputes between taxpayers and customs department under 'alternative dispute resolution'. The committees have been constituted in Karachi, Hyderabad, Quetta, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Rawalpindi and Islamabad for speedy settlement of disputes.
The decision has been notified through Customs General Order (CGO) 12 of 2004 issued here on Monday.
According to details, any aggrieved person can invoke the mechanism of alternative dispute resolution through the committees under section 195-C of the Custom Act, 1969. The committees would ensure that the custom-related disputes should be resolved on top priority basis to facilitate the business community particularly importers.
Following committees have been set up in various cities of the country:
KARACHI
Committee No I: Masood Aziz, consultant, Chairman; Arshad Alam, businessmen, Member, controller valuation Karachi, member and Mian Zahid Hussain, chairman, Korangi Association of Trade and Industry, Karachi will be the alternative member of the committee.
Committee No. II: Attaullha Khan, consultant, Karachi, Chairman, Muhammad Mansha Churra, businessmen, member; Collector of Customs, Appraisement, member and Shaukat Ahmed, businessmen will be the alternative member of the committee.
LAHORE
Committee No 1: Chairman would be Falak Sheer, consultant and its members include Anjum Nisar, businessmen, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lahore; Director Intelligence, Directorate General of Customs and Excise and Mahmood Ahmed Chief Executive Sharif Garments (alternative member).
Committee No II: Chairman would be Maqbool Sheikh, businessmen, Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lahore and its members include Ali Arshad, Hakeem, businessmen, collector of customs and Sh. Muhammad Asif Convener Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lahore (alternative member).
PESHAWAR
Adeel Rauf, businessmen Sarhad Chamber House, chairman; Noman Wazeer, businessmen, Peshawar, member; collector of customs, member and Khalid Sultan, businessmen (alternative member).
RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD
Mumtaz Ali, consultant, Islamabad, Chairman; Rashid Ibrahim, businessmen, member; collector of customs, member and Jehangir Khan, consultant (alternative member).
MULTAN
Khawaja Muhammad Younas, Businessman, chairman and its members include Sh. Ahsan Rasheed businessman and collector of customs.
HYDERABAD
Haji Muhammad Yaqoob, businessmen will be the chairman and members include Muhammad Madni and collector of customs.
FAISALABAD
The chairman of the committee is Zaffar Ullah Barrister and members include Sheikh Mukhtar, Sadaqat Textile Mills, Faisalabad and collector of customs.
QUETTA
Pervaiz Iqbal Kani will be the chairman and members include Sardar Mohammad Ali Jigezi, businessman coal mines Quetta and collector of customs Quetta.
