The NWFP health department has with immediate effect banned the sale and purchase of painkiller medicine Vioxx for being injurious to health. Vioxx, the generic name of which is Rofecoxib is being prepared and sold by almost 46 companies with different names. The said medicine reportedly has such element, which causes heart attack and as a result kill the patient.
According to a report about 27,000 people have died in a short period in America.
After detailed report and experiments, the government of Pakistan has declared the said medicines harmful to health and thus imposed ban on its preparation, sale and use etc. The government has appealed to the medicine shops and dealers to send back the stock of said medicine back to their companies.
Similarly the government of NWFP has also appealed the general public to abstain from using Vioxx as it has been declared dangerous for health.
