Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC) will be setting up a vocational training institute at Arifwala District Pakpattan with the cost of Rs 21 million which would become functional by the end of current year.
The deserving people would be imparted technical education in four different trades including auto electrician, dress making, computer, office assistant and motorcycle mechanic at the institute, PVTC Chairman Sikandar Mustafa Khan said in a press statement here on Monday.
He said the centre would have the capacity to impart training to 140 persons in the proposed disciplines.
He said PVTC would set up at least one vocational training institute (VTI) in each tehsil of Punjab by June 2005 to train Mustehqeen-e-Zakat (deserving people).
There would be 500 VTIs in the province by June 2008 having capacity to train 100,000 persons annually in employable skills, he added.
The Punjab government was working for poverty alleviation through efficient utilisation of Zakat funds by providing training in demand driven skills to the deserving, he observed.
