Governor Punjab Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) has said in order to move forward in the present world it was necessary that we enabled our young educated generation to find solutions to the problems of next century. He said journey to achieving that goal had already begun.
He expressed those views while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the new professional studies block of Government College University Faisalabad (GCUF) here on Monday.
The governor said there was absolutely no place in educational institutions now, for those elements who intended to make the universities an arena of politics as there were assemblies available for the purpose of politics.
He said the universities should be the fountainhead of such studies as were in accordance with the requirements of the society & market demands.
The new block would be constructed within a period of 18 months for Rs 75 million, the entire amount had been arranged by a local industrialist Mian Waqar Yousaf and his brothers.
Governor termed it as a happy augury that all the prominent industrialists enjoyed dominant representation in the syndicate of Government College University Faisalabad due to which it had helped a lot in providing necessary infrastructure to this university. The Governor said in the industrial city like Faisalabad introduction of 28 new disciplines at master's level and eleven programmes of 4-years' Honours Graduation in a period of two years was a good progress.
The Governor added at present professionals, not clerks were required in the market who as qualified managers had the capability of taking the problems being faced by their respective organisation.
He urged the students to create a passion and urge in themselves to acquire the knowledge & skills in different fields. He said our younger generation should study of international level and put on the same dress which was used internationally.
The Governor said we could only come up to the new requirements of WTO when the quality of education of our universities was of a higher level, and our students be able to compete the world with reference to their educational wisdom and research besides, being very sensitive and keen towards their faith, thinking and love for the country.
The Governor revealed that the construction of third new block of GCUF would start from January 1, 2005 for Rs 50 million, entirely borne by a local industrialist Mukhtar Ahmad Sheikh and his colleagues.
The Governor inspected the under-construction block of basic sciences in the University, also being completed with the monetary help of a local industrialist.
The Governor said a college of Banking and Finance would also be set up in G.C. University Faisalabad with the co-operation of Bank Alfalah, followed by an open air auditorium and a sports complex.
Earlier, addressing the function Vice Chancellor of the GCUF Dr Asif Iqbal and President Faisalabad Educational Scholarship Society Mian Saleem Umer said the education of Business Administration, Commerce, Industrial Management and Law would be imparted in the new professional studies block. They said the business community of Faisalabad was playing a very important role in the development of Pakistan.
