Chairman MMR and Chest Specialist Panel Pakistan Dr Hye Seed has said that every one square mile residential area should have one acre green park and one acre play ground as Green Park are lungs of a city and play ground are essential for the next generation health.
According to a press release issued here on Monday, Dr Hye Saeed stressed every household should plant a tree in its courtyard and look after it; plants purify the air, absorb carbon dioxide an emit oxygen. The high rise buildings for residence should also be restricted to 4 stories so that fresh breeze blow freely in the city streets, drives pollution out and people breath freely, he added.
Hr further said public transport with non gas emitting bus service should be expanded and re-organised, and gas emitting vehicles should be strictly controlled.
According to a report on various activities of the MMR, 25,071 members of organised communities have been examined so for through MMR chest X-ray out of which 7,856 were school children belonging to 22 different schools of Karachi, the release said.
Out of these 903 children were found with chest diseases which come to 11.5 percent. Major diseases found in children are Emphysema (33 percent), Chronic Bronchitis (21.5 percent), Cardiomegaly (21.5 percent) Hilar Adenitis (12.2 percent) and Scoliosis Spine (6 percent), the report revealed.
The objective of activity was to detect the chest diseases at an early stage, it added saying that unlike adults the children do not produce sputum, therefore X-ray examination was essential. A disease detected early could be treated early and saved the child's career as an adult.
The report further said the "Effect of Environment on Lung Health." Was also studied. This study has shown these children in of younger age group have lost lung function most probably on account of air pollution. This program, the report revealed has been launched with the collaboration of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST).
The MMIR Van has been donated by Rotary Club of Germany and German Govt through Rotary Club Karachi. The project is being run by the MMR committee of Pakistan Anti Tuberculosis Association and SZABIST.-PR
