City Nazim, Naimatullah Khan has said that it was his opinion that nationalisation of colleges was a mistake, and denationalisation would be an even bigger mistake then.
In a letter to Provincial Education Minister, Dr Hameeda Khuhro, the city nazim said a lot had already been said at various forums about denationalisation of colleges.
Naimatullah Khan on behalf of the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) said that he took this opportunity to put on record his considered opinion and official version regarding the recent decision of denationalisation and handing over of two city colleges to the so-called Catholic Board.
He pointed out that although the education department had duly been devolved to become a part and parcel of the CDGK but they had not been taken into confidence neither consulted nor informed regarding the aforesaid decision.
The two colleges, he pointed out, had always maintained a high repute and extra-ordinary standard of education during the last three decades, Their de-nationalisation would definitely bring miseries not only for the students but also for the teaching and non-teaching staff.
Concluding, the City Nazim said he was unable to understand the very reason and basis for taking such decision regarding change in the administrative mechanism.
