Governor Punjab Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) has said the country had made a remarkable progress during last five years which had no match whatsoever in the past. This journey of progress and prosperity would continue and none would be allowed to create hurdles in its way.
Addressing an inaugural function at the provision of gas in colonies and villages adjacent to Canal Rakh Branch here on Tuesday he said the level of industrial and commercial sector growth, and provision of facilities available today throughout the country had no such example in the past.
Today 4500 new power connections were being provided annually as compared to only 900 in the past. He said Rs 9 billion were being spent for provision of Sui gas while 2 million telephone connections were being provided and the rates of call charges were far less now. The rate of mark up on agricultural loans was far less and the rates of tractors and fertilisers were also very low now, the governor said.
Khalid Maqbool said the pace of industrial development could be gauged from the fact that only in Faisalabad district 25 new big industrial units were being set up while one hundred thousand more power looms were also being installed here. The people were coming here from far-flung areas like Bhakkar and Layyah for getting employment. Factories were being set up on Faisalabad Sheikhupura road, Jaranwala road, Lahore Kasur road, Lahore Gujranwala road and on other important roads.
The Governor further said the leadership of Pervaiz Musharraf had served the country and nation with honesty, commitment and dedication; developed good relations with other countries, improved political & administrative policies and enhanced the dignity of country among the nations of the world.
Governor Punjab said Faisalabad achieved notable progress during last few years and lauded the role of District Nazim Chaudhry Zahid Nazir and City Nazim Mumtaz Ali Cheema in this process. Governor said he had directed them to provide maximum possible play grounds & recreational opportunities to the citizens and arrange lights on all the roads so that Faisalabad could also become a bright city like other big cities of the country.
Khalid Maqbool said the Government departments tried to find out the solution of the peoples' problems with mutual understanding instead of dealing with them as rulers. He added under that friendly approach Sui gas department had decided that the transmission charges would be received only from the colonies for the provision of Sui gas while this facility would be provided in the rural areas without any charge.
Expressing views, District Nazim Chaudhry Zahid Nazir paid rich tributes to Governor Khalid Maqbool for the efforts made by him for bringing about revolutionary development in the province particularly in Faisalabad.
Governor Punjab on this occasion announced to upgrade the girls middle School of Chak No 204RB to the status of a high school and also announced the bridge over the canal would be constructed for convenience of the area people.
