Information and Broadcasting Minister Shaikh Rashid on Tuesday said that President General Pervez Musharraf is seeking opinion of the people on the Kashmir issue to find a solution to the longstanding problem.
Addressing a public meeting here in Saddar, the minister said that the people living in all parts of occupied Kashmir should suggest how the longstanding problem could be resolved.
The government will respect the wishes of the people on the Kashmir issue, he added.
He said the United States should reconsider its policies in Iraq so that they are acceptable to the Islamic Ummah.
The Muslim world differs with the American policies, he said, adding that the outcome of American elections will not affect Pakistan and it would remain an important country due to its geo-political situation.
The minister said the government is only watching interests of Pakistan and not of anybody else.
Pakistan, which is on the road to progress, will continue to play an important role in the region and in the international arena, he added.
Rashid said the issues of lease and taxes would be raised with the relevant cantonment authorities.
He said he has discussed the issues faced by the cantonment residents with President Musharraf. An amount of Rs 30 million would be spent on different development projects in cantonment and other areas, he said, adding that more educational institutions would also be established in the area.
