A meeting of CDGK decided to strictly enforce municipal laws in the city and impose fines against the violators. CDGK also decided to introduce ticket system for recovery of fines imposed on violation of municipal laws. Under the ambit of municipal laws, CDGK will mainly focus on checking illegal encroachments on roads and footpaths, sewerage flows and other such offences.
These decisions were taken in a meeting chaired by DCO Karachi Mir Hussain Ali on Tuesday. The meeting reviewed at length the ticketing system for recovery of fines and directed the EDO Revenue, Mohammed Waseem, who was also present on the occasion, to submit a report, identifying the cases of violations of municipal laws at the next meeting.
In this regard, the meeting also considered the delegation of magisterial powers to CDGK officials, imperative to accomplish the task and decided to approach the Sindh government for this purpose.
Taking notice of increasing traffic congestion in the city the meeting further reviewed the steps taken by the transport department of CDGK to improve the traffic system and resolved to take certain steps to ease out the traffic congestion immediately.
In reply, DO Transport informed the meeting that planning was underway for pedestrian zones in Saddar and Raja Ghazanfar Ali Khan Road areas which were facing massive traffic pressure. On this, DCO Karachi asked the transport department to identify more areas in this respect.
The meeting further emphasised the need for establishing grain market outside the city and decided to take practical steps for this purpose. In this regard, the master plan department of CDGK was directed to carry out necessary planning while Sindh government would be requested for allocation of 2,000 acres of land.
Steps to remove encroachments and resolve other civic problems were also examined in the meeting. Besides DCO Karachi, EDO Revenue, and EDO Master Plan, other CDGK officials were also present in the meeting.
