With a view to ensuring foolproof security arrangements in the mosques, Imambargahs and other religious places the District Government has earmarked an amount of Rs 50 million for the purchase of detectors, cameras and other security equipment.
This was revealed in a meeting of the District Peace Committee held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of District Nazim, Chaudhry Zahid Nazir. Among others, DCO Tahir Hussain, DPO Captain Muhammad Amin Waince (Retd), members of the District Peace Committee and other concerned attended the meeting.
For the purchase of security equipment, 80 percent amount would be paid by the District Government, while remaining 20 percent share would be provided by the District Peace Committee through its own resources. It was decided in the meeting that alongside police the security arrangements of the mosques would also be made by respective mosque committees.
It was decided that use of licensed weapons in the name of Masjid Committee members would be allowed by the Security Guards for guard duties during the prayers/travih timings.
For remodelling the security arrangements of the mosques throughout the district accordance with most modern lines, a sub committee consisting of the members Peace Committee was constituted with a task to prepare an estimate about the requirements of metal detectors, cameras and other required equipment for the security of the mosques of their respective-sects.
It was decided that the Mosques Committees would make security arrangements themselves while the police would also be present for their help. It was decided in the meeting to connect the main mosques with the wireless network to ensure an effective communication.
The members of the Peace Committee were requested to prepare a duty roster and check the security arrangements of the mosques of their respective sects. They were also advised to ensure that only one door of the mosques should remain open during the prayer/travih timings.
It was also decided that nine religious places of the city would be made "model" in terms of security arrangements under Pilot Project. A sub committee was formed in the meeting for preparing an estimate for the purchase of detectors, cameras and other equipment for the purpose.
Sh. Taj Mahmood would be the convenor of this sub committee while Syed Jaafar Naqvi, Maulana Zahid Mahmood Qasmi, Maulana Qari Ghulam Rasul, and Oari Muhammad Hanif Bhatti would work as its members.
Initially the mosques/ Imambargahs which would be made model in terms of security would include Gole Masjid Gulberg, Markazi Imambargah, Masjid Katchery bazaar, Masjid Tehsil Wali, Jamia Gilania Gulberg and Uloom-e-Islamia Jhang bazaar.
