Federal Information Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmad has shown optimism that in near future, relations between Pakistan and the United States would take new dimensions and bring positive outcome for the country.
Speaking at an Iftar party given by him in honour of journalists here on Wednesday he hoped that there would be progress in resolution of Indian occupied Kashmir issue in US post election era. He also showed optimism that Palestine issue would also be settled in new era.
Stating that Muslim Ummah's feelings had been hurt in tenure of President Bush he hoped that in future, Bush while removing Ummah's irritants will move in the direction of improving relations with Islamic countries.
To a question about demise of Mian Sharif, Rashid stated that they were sharing grief of Sharif family and the President himself had contacted Saudi authorities and told them to allow entire Sharif family to come for funeral of Mian Sharif in Pakistan.
Answering a question about terrorism he stated that it was unfortunate that incidents of terrorism or tapes of terrorists being telecast internationally had some links with our country which had established wrong image of our country and also negated steps being taken against terrorism here. He praised President Musharraf for defending cause of Madrassahs around the world.
When asked whether Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) would attend next meeting of National Security Council (NSC) he stated that only time would answer that. He appreciated leadership of Maulana Fazlur Rehman and dubbed him as a 'balanced personality'.
Commenting on relations with India and country's defence preparedness he stated that going for betterment of relations does not mean that we have lacked in our defence preparation. 'India by time has well understood that it cannot run over Pakistan and we here also have no such intention', he added.
Showing grief on the death of UAE President he said that the country had lost a friend.
Averring on Indian occupied Kashmir dispute he stated that it was not any more an issue related to us but had a universal implication now.
