Pakistan Railways Chairman Asif Hayat has said that the railways would take immediate steps for shifting 7,000 stranded containers brought under Afghan Transit Trade Agreement (ATTA), which are lying in Karachi port due to shortage of railway wagons.
He gave these assurances to a delegation which met him in Islamabad, led by Sarhad Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCI) chairman of standing committee on Pakistan Railways and member of railway advisory committee, Zia-ul-Haq Sarhadi. On this occasion, representatives of different shipping companies of Peshawar and Karachi were also present.
The delegation informed the Pakistan Railways chairman about delay in the transportation of goods and problems created out of the delay. They said that due to lack of proper facilities at the platform of Karachi port the loading of railway wagons consumes much more time than required.
The delegation also informed him about the problems and difficulties faced by the importers and exporters of Peshawar, both in Karachi and Peshawar dry port and demanded to extend all possible facilities to exporters and importers at Peshawar dry port.
In response to the demands of the delegation, the railways chairman assured them of removing of hurdles. The delegation invited Pakistan railways chairman to visit Peshawar dry port and SCCI office.
