The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday directed the District Police Officer (DPO) Narowal to redress the grievance of the petitioner Rana Safdar and got registered an FIR against the respondent police officials who arrested and tortured his son illegally. The court also directed DPO to hold departmental inquiry against the respondent police officials and take strict disciplinary action against the delinquent officials.
The petitioner through his counsel M.D. Tahir contended that they were running a college on welfare basis but some influential persons of the areas were not happy with the welfare activities. These persons in connivance with the respondent police officials including Rana Liaquat and five other came to their college, arrested his son and taken him to police station.
They tortured him severely and later released him over the request of the elite of the area.
