A spokeswoman of Chinese Foreign Ministry Zhang Qiyue has denied the press reports that China has withdrawn its workers from Pakistan. When asked to comment on such reports, she said, "The Chinese government did not decide to withdraw the Chinese personnel working on the projects in Pakistan."
"We heard that the Chinese company contracting to the Gomal Zam Dam project had withdrawn its personnel and now it is consulting with the owner of the project, the Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority on relevant issues," she added.
The Chinese leadership has already made its commitment to continue its development projects in Pakistan.
According to the Chinese state-run news agency, Xinhua, President Hu Jintao during his meeting with Speaker National Assembly Chaudhry Amir Hussain, held in Beijing last week, appreciated Pakistan's efforts to rescue the Chinese hostage and to help deal with remaining problems.
Citing increasing mutually beneficial co-operation in various fields, Hu said China valued its traditional friendship with Pakistan and persisted in enhancing neighbourly friendship between the two countries.
Amir Hussain told newsmen that President Hu Jintao showed keen interest in economic development of Pakistan and for provision of soft loans to help undertaking further development projects.
Hu categorically stated that no incident could affect their trustworthy and cordial relations.
Sino-Pak friendship was a role-model of good neighbourly relations and with their joint efforts there would be a more splendid future of Pakistan-China friendship in the new century," the Chinese President added.
