Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) - a premier healthcare institution in the federal capital - is facing acute shortage of manpower, as 187 posts of different categories of medical and paramedical staff are lying vacant.
According to the PIMS Year Book 2003-04, only 2,619 staffers are currently working in PIMS, whereas total sanctioned strength is 2,806 posts.
The break up of vacant posts is: five posts are vacant in administration, 24 specialists, 42 registrars, MO, 56 in nursing, 10 in paramedics, nine in ministerial staff, five in CDC staff, one in statistical staff, two in medical social welfare staff, one in training staff, three in library staff, four in store department staff, seven in horticulture staff, 10 in transport section while seven posts are lying vacant in engineering section, the report said.
Grade wise break-up of these posts reveals that 15 posts of BPS 20 are vacant, nine of BPS 19, 48 of BPS 18, 18 of BPS 17, one of BPS 15, 56 of BPS 14, three of BPS 12, three of BPS 11, one of BPS 10, six of BPS 9, four of BPS 7, two of BPS 6, two of BPS 5, 8 of BPS 4, one of BPS 3 and BPS 2 each.
The establishment division has sanctioned 2,806 posts including 13 for administration, 567 for nursing, 267 for paramedics, 311 for ministerial staff, 16 for accounts staff, nine for MIS/CDC staff, 15 for statistical staff, four for medical social welfare staff, four for training staff, 13 for library staff, 18 for store department staff, 98 for food & kitchen staff, 698 for house keeping staff, 100 for security staff, 57 for horticulture staff, 80 for transport staff and 189 for engineering staff, and number of registrars, MO.
