General Mirza Aslam Beg (Retd) has opined that it will be unwise to impose sanctions on Iran because the developed world cannot afford to lose 2.5 million barrel a day supply of Oil.
Kadar Khan, an analyst, has however remarked, that could sanction be imposed on Pakistan and use Pakistani crisis to check Iran in balance? May I say, if Iran could use oil as a weapon to safeguard her nuclear programme then why can't she do the same if any sanctions are imposed on Pakistan whether those are Iran specific or not? Hands off Pakistan also or else you lose the oil, could be a joint strategy worked out both by Pakistan and Iran.
US must not be allowed to deal piecemeal with the nuclear or potential nuclear powers of the region. Union is their strength and unitedly they must act. I am sure the other Islamic countries of the region will lend their support to such a strategy in their own interest and for their own security.
