Justice Khawaja Mohammad Sharif of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday taking up appeals against conviction in honour killing case reduced the sentence of all three appellants. The court reduced the sentence of Muhmmad Aslam, Mukhtar Ahmad and Manna from life term to ten years imprisonment, and set aside the compensation imposed on the appellants awarded by the trial court, Sheikhupura.
The court ruled out that according to the Supreme Court Judgement fine could not be imposed on accused of honour killing case.
The complainant's counsel submitted that appellant Aslam had said that the deceased Adnan used to tease his sister Salma and he called the deceased to his house and then tortured him to death.
However, the counsel for the appellants submitted that the crime took place in the house of Aslam during night and has no witness.
He maintained that, to the least, the case of Aslam would fall under Section 302 (c) PPC and not under section 302 (b) PPC. And the case against the appellants is of doubtful in nature, therefore, appellants are entitled to acquittal.
The court observed that version of appellants seems to be more plausible and convincing.
