The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) takes a strict action and showed serious concerns over the killing of a female model, Qandeel Baloch in the name of ‘honour’ by her brother. Her brother has been arrested and Punjab Police has expanded its investigations. According to the police sources, a religious cleric, Mufti Abdul Qavi, who was popular in social media due to his selfies with the slain model, has also been investigated in this regards.
According to Reuters, "It was done on the instructions of the government. But it happens rarely," a Punjab police official told Reuters. The state has now become a complainant in the case, preventing Baloch's family from pardoning her brother.
“There is no honour in killing in the name of honour,” Sharif said about Baloch’s murder, according to his daughter, Maryam.
According to local media reports, Pakistan’s ruling party also plans to pass long-delayed legislation against ‘honour killings’ within weeks in the wake of the high-profile murder of an outspoken social media star Qandeel Baloch, the daughter of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Wednesday.
Civil society was shocked by the murder and everyone wanted to know the actual reasons, facts and the reality behind the sad episode. The recent murder of a prominent female figure in the name of honour was a big question mark on the face of the government.
Qandeel Baloch passed away last Saturday in her home at Multan. She was killed by her brother Waseem, who squeeze the life out of her neck in the name of ‘honour’. She was laid to rest in her native village located in Dera Ghazi Khan on Sunday.
