Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said according to the decision of the Parliament, President General Pervez Musharraf can hold two offices and opposition to his uniform is totally illogical and meaningless and current assemblies will complete their five-year tenure, he said.
Addressing a public gathering at the Iftar party hosted by City Nazim Mian Aamer Mehmud on Sunday, the chief minister said those talking of launching an anti-government drive were fully aware of the fact that they are themselves members of these assemblies.
The MMA is in power in the NWFP while it is a coalition partner in Balochistan government, he added.
He said President Musharraf conducted elections within the timeframe and handed over power to the elected representatives while he was in uniform.
Pervaiz Elahi said PML workers should unite and prepare themselves for the upcoming local bodies elections to once again prove that Lahore, like other cities, is a bastion of the party.
Process of the PML reorganisation is in full swing and desires and aspirations of workers are also being given due importance, he added.
He said the government was following a balanced development policy and uplift projects of various terms are being executed across the province.
Announcing a development programme for the provincial metropolis, the chief minister said the government was also concentrating on the uplift of surrounding areas, besides central areas of the city.
He said various projects had been evolved for restoring the architectural and historical beauty of the walled city.
He announced an amount of Rs 70 million for the reconstruction of Green Town and Singhpura to Kot Khawaja Saeed roads.
In response to a question, the chief minister said elements, which showed illegal resistance to the government officials in the performance of their duty in Harbanspura, would be dealt with an iron hand. He said that proprietary rights would be awarded to dwellers of katchi abadies for providing them permanent residential facilities.
