Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri has said that the re-election of US President George W. Bush would prove better for the continuation of US policies towards Pakistan as well as regional and international peace. "It is in the interest of Pakistan," he said. "I think that re-election of President Bush will benefit Pakistan because when a new administration swears in, it takes time to develop understanding with other countries", he told Voice of America (VoA).
The Foreign Minister said, Pakistan has an understanding with the US over several issues including the issue of non-proliferation.
The US administration knows that Pakistan was a responsible member of international community, and "Pakistan is enjoying a good understanding with the US", he added.
To a question he said, the Democrats in the United States also support Pakistan's policies. Giving an example Kasuri said, "Change also occurred in India, Congress Party replaced the BJP in the country. Our understanding with them developed after some time."
He said, it was a fact that President Bush and his colleagues have good understanding with President Musharraf and his team.
Being a responsible and important country, Kasuri said top leaders of the world are visiting Pakistan regularly as well as Pakistani leadership is visiting foreign countries regularly.
"Relations between Pakistan and US are based on solid footings. Pakistan's relations with the US are not confined to Afghanistan only as both the countries are holding regular talks on all international and regional issues, he added.
