Argentine export commitments of 2003/04 wheat totalled 8.35 million tonnes by November 5, up from 8.04 million tonnes a week before, the local agriculture department said on Monday. By the same date last year, Argentina had sold 6.05 million tonnes of the grain.
Argentina reported sales last week of 190,000 tonnes to Brazil, 40,000 tonnes to South Africa, 30,000 tonnes to Sri Lanka, 20,000 tonnes each to Uruguay and Yemen, and 10,000 tonnes to Algeria.
The government's figures refer to wheat seeded starting in May 2003 and harvested through to January 2004. The US Department of Agriculture forecasts Argentina's 2003/04 wheat exports at 8 million tonnes.

By the same date last year, corn sales reached 10.345 million tonnes.
Argentina reported sales last week of 55,000 tonnes of corn to South Africa.
The government's sales data refers to corn seeded starting in August 2003 and harvested through to September. The US Department of Agriculture forecasts Argentina's 2003/04 corn exports at 8.65 million tonnes.
The estimated sales are based on information collected from industry sources.
