Grain exports from the French port of Rouen totalled 544,443 tonnes in October, comprising 499,364 tonnes of wheat and 45,079 tonnes of barley, port officials said on Tuesday. That compared with exports of 419,000 tonnes in October last year, comprising 388,000 tonnes of wheat and 31,000 of barley.
Despite a national strike by dockworkers over job cuts, officials said three vessels were in the port on Tuesday, loading 70,000 tonnes of wheat for Algeria, Cyprus and Yemen.
A port spokesman said two ships, loading 37,500 tonnes of wheat for Yemen and 25,000 tonnes of wheat for Algeria, should leave Rouen on schedule on Tuesday.
Four wessels were expected by November 15 to load 50,000 tonnes of wheat and 3,000 tonnes of barley for unspecified destinations.
