Sindh Minister for Labour, Transport, Industries and Commerce Muhammad Adil Siddiqui has instructed police to check highhandedness of the bus owners, who are fleecing passengers going to their homes for Eid celebrations. In his directive issued on Wednesday, Adil Siddiqui said that the bus owners had increased tickets from Rs 350 to Rs 450 for Karachi-Lahore and from Rs 650 to Rs 850 for Karachi-Peshawar, which should be brought to its actual charges without any loss of time.
Siddiqui, along with Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Police Yameen Khan, visited bus stands at Sohrab Goth where passengers complained about the sudden increase in fare and urged the minister to intervene.
The minister asked the DIG to take action against the errant bus owners, who were exploiting the passengers during the holy month of Ramazan.
Complaints about the increase in fare were not new, as this practice had been going on for the last three weeks despite the knowledge of the city police.
Along with increase in fares, there is a tendency of asking for additional payment for choice seat and date and day of travel.
Police sources said that the long route buses catering to the needs of the up country traffic had been asked to immediately bring back their fares to the pre-Ramazan level.
