Advisor to Sindh Chief Minister on Health Faisal Malik has vowed to carry out a massive drive after Eid-ul-Fitr for improvement of health services in every nook and corner of the province. Talking to newsmen here after presiding over a meeting of the Executive District Officers Health at the Directorate of Health Services on Thursday afternoon.
The advisor expressed his grave concern over increase in polio and hepatitis cases in various parts of the province and said that it was because of the negligence of health officers, who preferred to sit in the offices instead of doing field visits and experiencing the ground realities.
He, however, said the government has started taking stern action against those officers, who failed to discharge their responsibilities in a proper manner.
He informed newsmen that 28 officers of the Health Department have so far been transferred to improve the performance of health services for the people.
He said all Executive District Officers (EDOs-Health) have been warned to discharge their duties irrespective of any influence or pressure from their respective district nazims and if they failed the government would initiate action against them.
Faisal Malik informed the newsmen that he would visit those areas from where polio cases have been reported in order to personally know the causes of emergence of this disease.
He said the Burns Ward of Liaquat University Hospital will be equipped with the latest equipment so that the people could get treatment of burn injuries at their nearest hospital. A Trauma Centre has started functioning in Karachi, while another centre has been planned to be established in Hyderabad, he said.
The advisor said the government has also planned to establish Rescue Centre for Emergency to meet any emergency situation. Karachi has been selected as the model city and first such centre will be established there, he added.
He said besides Polio Eradication Campaign, the government would also launch a vigorous drive against hepatitis B and C in every nook and corner of the province. The government also initiated steps to stop the sale of medicines of government hospitals to private centres, he said and informed that a campaign would also be launched after Eid against quack doctors.
