New Zealand will go into this week's opening cricket Test against Australia on the end of a heavy nine-wicket defeat in their warm-up match against New South Wales here on Sunday. In what will not help Kiwi confidence for the clash with world cricket's leading team starting on Thursday in Brisbane, NSW wrapped up victory early on the final day of the four-day game at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Chasing 129 runs for victory, NSW lost only one wicket as they cantered to a comprehensive win.
After resuming at 25 without loss, NSW opener Phil Jaques (70 not out) guided his team to victory with Matthew Phelps, also unbeaten on 39.
Greg Mail (13) added just four runs to his overnight score before being dismissed by Jacob Oram.
The New Zealand team will be boosted by the return of skipper Stephen Fleming for this week's Gabba Test after he stayed at home last week to treat a virus.
