Wheat sowing was being adversely affected due to acute shortage of water in the tail-end district. Report said wheat sowing was underway in the district, which was situated in the tail of command area of Nara Canal.
After reduction in water quantity in Nara Canal, head to the extent of 8,800-cusec discharge against a designed water discharge capacity of 13,600-cusec, water was being distributed into three main canals including Jamrao, Mithrao and Than.
To maintain supply to tail-end farming areas, a rotation programme is being pursued by the Irrigation authorities.
Report added that more than hundred distributaries were lying closed due to rotation programme in the canal command area causing great difficulties to the abadgars in sowing the wheat crop.
In many areas of the district the abadgars were unable to cultivate the wheat crop according to their programme due to acute shortage of water.
