Pakistan Peoples' Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) on Friday proposed to hold the first Alliance for Restoration of Democracy anti-Musharraf rally on December 7 in Lahore. Sources privy to the PPPP Central Executive Committee and Federal Council meeting here at the party's central secretariat told Business Recorder that the proposal would be taken up at the ARD meeting on Saturday (today). The rally will mark the start of countrywide meetings and peaceful demonstrations to pave way for restoration of true democracy and revival of 1973 Constitution.
PPPP Vice-Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim presided over the marathon meeting.
Briefing media about the meeting, PPPP Secretary General Jahangir Badar said that the party leadership was concerned over the rulers' inability to provide the masses easy access to justice and denial of their social and economic rights.
The party passed some resolutions, details of which would be made public next day, he said.
He said a two-member committee was formed to hold negotiations with the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal for the possibility of working relationship to launch a collective campaign against the rulers.
On connection with the party's foundation day, a public meeting would be organised in Lahore.
The Friday meeting offered Fateha for the departed souls of UAE and Palestinian leaders, eulogising their services for Islam.
It was decided that the party would approach international human rights organisations and democratic bodies for their support in the restoration of democracy to ensure social and economic justice to the masses.
"We will apprise them of the rulers' policy of victimisation of political workers and leaders," Badar maintained.
He dispelled the impression that PPPP wanted to use other parties for its own objectives, saying the party had nothing to do with exploiting any party. "The party has a vision and manifesto, which is based on the common man's rights."
To a question, he said that the proposal of en mass resignation would be taken up during ARD party heads meeting.
