Pakistan Industrial and Traders Associations Front (Piaf) has called upon the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) officials to abstain from spreading harassment amongst the business community during recovery campaign, as it would discourage the business activities. In a joint statement issued here on Friday, Piaf Chairman Mian Muhammad Ali, Vice-Chairmen Mubashar Sheikh and Mian Abuzarshad said that the tax officials had to refrain from showing such attitudes, which cause negative impacts on business activities.
Commenting on reports regarding recovery drive by the CBR against those institutions paying less sales tax, they said that business community was patriotic and have full realisation of requirement of the nation. Nevertheless, they alleged during such recovery drives, certain officials used it for their vested interests due to which people feel reluctant to come in to tax net.
Tax officials, they claim, in such a situation try to squeeze the persons already registered with the sales tax department.
They called upon the CBR that it should devise strategies to increase tax revenue but also abstain from the attitude of dubbing institutions registered with sales tax as tax evaders.
They said that CBR should adopt a friendly attitude with taxpayers which would encourage more to come in to tax net, they claimed.
