The lawyers community will observe black day on January 10, 2005, to press General Pervez Musharraf to quit both the offices of President and Chief of Army Staff. The decision was taken in the All Pakistan Lawyers Convention held here in Karachi Hall of the Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) on Saturday.
The speakers at the convention expressed displeasure over the bill passed by the parliament allowing General Musharraf to retain both the offices of the President and Chief of Army Staff.
They resolved that Musharraf has taken over the office of the President of Pakistan through unconstitutional means. They also resolved that neither the presidential referendum nor the so-called vote of confidence conferred any legitimacy on him. They also condemned the military action against the citizens of Pakistan in the tribal areas of Wana and Waziristan.
They were of the view that such military actions are liable to create disaffection amongst the people of Pakistan living in the areas. They demanded withdrawal of American and its allied forces from Iraq and killings of thousands of innocent children and women.
The participants of the convention also condoled the death of Palestinian leader Yasir Arafat and paid glowing tributes to him for waging struggle for the cause of oppressed Palestinians.
They urged upon the lawyers to forge unity in their ranks so as to wage forceful struggle against the illegal and unconstitutional acts of Musharraf regime.
