Mehmood Mandviwalla, Barrister-at-Law was inducted as President of Saarclaw at a ceremony held at the Radission Hotel in New Delhi on Sunday (November 21). Saarclaw is an association of the legal communities of the seven Saarc countries and Mandviwalla is a founder member of the association.
The investiture ceremony was attended by judges of the superior courts, leading practising lawyers and legal academics. The Union Minister of Law and Justice of India was also present on the occasion.
In his presidential address Mandviwalla said that Saarc could see its full potential given that Pakistan and India are in the midst of making earnest efforts to normalise their bilateral relations and have moved away from conflict preservation to conflict resolution.
Mandviwalla said that Saarclaw would energise its activities along side Saarc so that its efforts become more result oriented. There are two regional conferences planned for 2005 and the annual conference will be held in Bhutan. Mandviwalla also announced the launch of a Saarclaw digest that will provide up-to-date legal developments of the region.-PR
