The Technical Committee on Water Resources on Tuesday showed some progress over the issue of water availability for the future reservoirs and is likely to develop consensus on the water availability for mega projects. "In today's meeting we have achieved some advancement over the issue of water availability for the future reservoirs and the situation will further improve," Chairman A N G Abbasi told newsmen here after meeting on the second day.
The meeting started on Monday and will continue till 27th November.
Abassi said that the meeting was attended by Tariq Hameed, Chairman, Wapda, Member (Water) Wapda, Aman Gul Khattak, Chairman Irsa and members of the Technical Committee.
Both Irsa and Wapda made presentations on the subject TOR-5 (a) "Examine the filling criteria of Mangla reservoir and make recommendations in this regard", and TOR-5 (b) "Examination of operational criteria of link canals and future reservoirs," he maintained.
After the presentations, discussions were held on the above mentioned TOR's, Abassi said.
When asked about the point of view of the Irsa and Wapda on TOR, the Chairman Technical Committee said that it was quite different from one another, therefore "we do not want to confuse the public."
"The Committee has been constituted for removing the confusion persisting among different provinces," he added.
Replying to a query, he said that the Technical Committee is deliberating over the water availability situation and after the consensus on the issue by all the stakeholders, they will be in a position to determine how many new water reservoirs can be built in the country.
