An emergent meeting called by the District Co-ordinating Officer (DCO) negates the claim of the provincial agriculture department regarding ample availability of fertiliser to growers. The meeting was informed regarding poor availability of fertiliser particularly DAP and marketing of substandard and adulterated pesticides.
The meeting after reviewing the situation constituted a sub-committee to check the marketing of substandard pesticide and fertiliser and availability of good quality fertiliser to growers in the district to help growers to achieve wheat production target. Addressing the meeting the DCO also directed the EDO agriculture department to deploy his field force to create awareness amongst the farmers about safe use of pesticides. Moreover, pesticide spray on vegetable crops must be stopped. He said a draft should also be prepared to award major punishment to those found guilty of adulteration and marketing of sub-standard pesticides.
The EDO agriculture Hyderabad informed the meeting that since January this year, 118 samples have been drawn and sent for laboratory analysis, of which 105 were found fit while the rest were found substandard.
