District Co-ordination Officer, Muzaffargarh, Chaudhry Muhammad Azhar has ordered an inquiry on Thursday into the police torture on the candidates who gathered in front of office of water management in Khangarh on Wednesday, resultantly a clash took place between the public and the police and demonstrators blocked the road by burning tyres and putting hurdles resultantly traffic on National Highway remained suspended for several hours.
A violent mob of the candidates and citizens manhandled the head constable who gave severe beating to a candidate Muhammad Arif. They also tried to set a police vehicle on fire. A patient, Muhammad Ramzan of Kherpur Sadat who was being shifted to Nishtar Hospital Multan died in Khangarh due to blockade of traffic.
According to details, Water Management Department had invited the candidates for the posts of Naib Qasid (Peon) and Rod-man. A large number of candidates gathered outside the office. A head constable Muhammad Ali, on duty, pushed a candidate Muhammad Arif Mumtaz Qureshi when he protested other cops manhandled him.
However, candidates got him released from police custody. When police tried to catch him he ran away but police chased him and police entered the home of a citizen Rahim Bakhsh to arrest him. Upon this purdah-observing women protested. Then policemen gave him severe beating in the presence of female inmates. Upon this, thousands of candidates infuriated and they blocked the road by putting hurdles and burning tyres.
They also tried to burn the vehicle of DSP Sadar Gul Amir when he reached there to control the situation. Then policemen showed a clean pair of heels. Police have registered a report of Muhammad Arif against head constable Muhammad Ali and ordered the inquiry.
