The health ministry has approved PC-I of Cardiac Surgery Centre and Burn Unit at Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Business Recorder has learnt. The PIMS administration has submitted proposals to the government, seeking setting up of new institutions in different disciplines in the premises of the hospital. The proposals sought government's financial assistance to build institutions like cardiac surgery centre, burn centre, trauma and diabetic centres, sources added.
Sources said that the government has approved PC-I for the establishment of burn centre whose total estimated cost is nearly Rs 180 million.
Former prime minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali has directed the PIMS administration to step up their efforts for a burn centre in the federal capital.
It is pertinent to nearby mention here that it would be very more beneficial for the people of other cities as there is no burn unit in the NWFP and AJK.
The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences had announced to establish a 42-beded Cardiac Surgery Centre costing of Rs 551 million.
Sources said that the health ministry has also approved the PC-I of the project and the amount would be released in December.
According to information PC-I for the establishment of a state-of-the-art liver transplant unit within the premises of the hospital is also being prepared and work would be started on it in the next year.
Sources said that such a centre is need of the hour, especially when hepatitis B and C have become silent killers of a large number of young population.
