The Abaseen Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), a non-government organisation is holding a diabetics-friendly food fair in Peshawar on November 28, Sunday at Nishtar Hall to create awareness among the people about the disease of sugar. Dr Zia-ul-Hassan, Director AIMS, announced this while addressing a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club (PPC) on Friday.
Giving details about the arrangements for the food fair, he said that the purpose of the effort was aware patients, their families and particularly, youth the eating of the food is possible even without fats and sweet items. This is applicable not only to patients but also for others. This kind of food should not call as preventive, but a healthy one.
Dr Hassan urged on the owners of restaurants and hotel to include such kind of food items in their menus to promote such kind of healthy food items particularly among children and youth segments of the society. He said that during the scheduled food fair separate stalls would be established for both and women and men.
"On these stalls expert cooks from different hotels and house women would cook their meal under the supervision of senior doctors and experts on food," the Director Aims announced and informed that the patients would also be facilitated in testing of sugar, blood pressure, weight and height. He said that the entry fee would be Rs 20 per person.
He further informed that Minister of State for Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs Muhammad Ali Durrani would be chief guest on the occasion, which would also share the process of the formation of youth policy with the participants. The function would be started at 11 am would continue till 4 pm.
The Director AIMS also announced the holding of Peshawar Aims Marathan-Limited addition on March 23 next at 9 am. The race would be started from Jinnah Park would be attended by students of colleges and schools from all around the province.
According to a survey conducted by the World Health Organisation (WHO) more than 300 million are sugar patients in the world and 85 percent of the disease has been found in the developing or under developed countries. He said that in NWFP 11.1 percent people are suffering from the disease.
He informed that best treatment of the disease is prevention and care in food and physical exercise. He said that although the government has announced provision of free insulin to the patients, but due to the lack of proper infrastructure it is still impossible.
