State Minister for Environment Malik Amin Aslam Khan has said that revolutionary arrangements have been made for combating the environmental degradation in the country. Addressing Global Forum for Sports and Environment (G-forSE) conference at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Friday he disclosed that drastic steps had been taken for installing five effluent plants at Sialkot, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad and Karachi, in order to avert pollution threat cause by the industrial sectors in these major cities of the country.
The conference was attended by Tatsuto Okada (GSA), Andre Gorgemans (WFSGI), Hartmut Staid, Christian Hochfeld (FFFA) Theodore Oben, Tore Brevik (UNEP), Jason Chase, Katsuya Otso, Yulco Tamae, Kouhei Oto, Taisei Kubota, Masanori Funahasi (Japan) Dapng Lou (IAAF), Ian Jarman, Ibrahim Al Zubi, Ms Alexis Gallice, Antonio Lucia, Anders Bulow, Eric Falt, Joao Calazans Filho, Jose Mauricio Ferrciro and Dr Elizabeth Odera.
The State Minister revealed that the work on Sialkot Tanneries Zone project would be carried out shortly where combined effluent plant would be installed jointly by government and private sector on partnership basis.
The tanneries functioning in and around Sialkot would be shifted in this Tanneries Zone under a specific formula which ultimately held reduce the pollution, he said.
He said that the government was endeavouring for providing pollution free environment for industrial sector to cope with the new global challenges.
The State Minister underscored the need of collective efforts to curb the threats of pollution and for improving the manufacturing condition in the industrial sector of the country.
The business community of Sialkot had played a tremendous role in purging the child labour from the soccer ball industry and the efforts of business community had been widely hailed in the glob, he said.
Speaking on the occasion President World Federation of Sporting Goods Industry Michel Perrauddin said that its heartening that soccer ball industry of Sialkot had been purged from the menace of child labour and business community of Sialkot played an instrumental role in the campaign of elimination of child labour.
The President World Federation of Sporting Goods Industry said that sports industry and environment are linked together in such a way that that cannot be viewed separately. Under the new challenges sports goods industry should focus on improving the manufacturing condition and ensuring pollution-free production, he said.
The President WFSG1 was of the view that pollution free environment at the production centres of the sports goods would not only guarantee the healthy atmosphere for the industrial workers but would also ensure safety for the sportsmen against various type of diseases caused by pollution.
In his address of welcome, acting President Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) Ahsan Naseer said the industrialists in Sialkot bad become very sensitive about their environmental responsibilities1 in this regard two programmes like Cleaner Production Centre in Leather Tanning and Sialkot Tanneries Zone have been initiated, he informed the house.
The acting president SCCI endorsing the GforSE agenda and assure to share its objectives in improving the state of the world environment to help the countries to build a strong field for the better environment for future generation.
