Pakistan Sugar Mills Association has decided to stop sugarcane crushing from midnight of December 2, for following 20 days for improved labour situation, and enhanced and smooth supply of cane. The Association's statement here on Saturday said that sugar mills suffer loss due to short supply of sugarcane for non-availability of labour who have shifted to picking cotton and harvesting paddy and sowing of wheat.
Pakistan Sugar Mills Association in a statement here on Saturday said that sugarcane harvesting in Sindh province had been exceptionally low and absolutely inadequate since the commencement of sugarcane crushing of the current season one month back.
Faced by such situation, PSMA'S Sindh Zone held its meeting here on Saturday to assess the situation and found no option but to suspend operation for at least 20 days.
The mills would resume working after this period in case the labour situation improves, sugarcane harvest takes place and there can be smooth sugarcane supply, and the sugar mills can have profitable operation.
