Bilal Malik of National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) successfully defended his doctoral dissertation today (November 27). The defence was held in the College of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, the largest engineering campus of NUST. It was attended by DGLME, senior officers from the GHQ and representatives from various R&D organisations.
Bilal accomplished his research under the guidance of Dr Mohammad Ali Maud and has developed a new technique related to digital signal processing and control systems. This technique addresses advanced and specialised areas in communication system, industrial applications, guided weapons and surveillance systems.
The Ph.D. thesis was evaluated by two American and one Pakistani specialist. These research findings in various forms have already been published in a number of prestigious journals and also presented in various conferences by Bilal Malik.
Rector NUST Lieutenant General Syed Shujaat's message was read by Dr Ghafoor, who congratulated the Ph.D. scholar, faculty and the commandant of the collage. The message said: "The professionals undertake the laborious task of research spread over many years because of the satisfaction that the elements of discovery and analysis provide. The present Ph.D. research has the additional benefit of industrial relevance. Bilal's Ph.D. degree is the first indigenous engineering doctoral degree of NUST and only the third awarded by any Pakistani engineering university since 1947."
Talking on the occasion, Commandant College of E&ME Syed Jamal Shahid said, "our institution has come to the level where we can embark upon such intellectual pursuits with confidence as open dissertation defences exhibit the fairness and openness of the procedures involved, and worth of the research work undertaken.-PR
