Over 93,000 square feet area with new facilities of international standard at a cost of Rs 114 million would be provided to animals in Lahore Zoo. Planning and development chairman Salman Ghani told this to Punjab chief secretary Kamran Rasool during a briefing here on Saturday. Punjab finance and forest secretaries and Wildlife DG also attended the briefing.
The DG Wildlife said in the briefing that under the proposed programme 14,000 square feet aquarium, 30,000 square feet walk through aviary, 12,000 square feet nocturnal house, 16,000 square feet chimpanzee island and 11,000 square feet leopard enclosures would be provided.
"The new facilities would bring the Lahore Zoo at par with the other international zoos," he added.
The chief secretary was further briefed about development plans of Woodland Park. He was told that a lion and tiger safari measuring 15-acre each would be established there while African Savanna, Indus Plain Safari and 80,000 square feet walk through aviary would also be provided.
