Pakistan Hosiery Manufacturers Association (North Zone) has expressed grave concern over the delay in publication of the proposed Gazette Notification of the City Tehsil Officer Faisalabad and pleaded the provincial chief minister for necessary action to solve this issue. Talking to newsmen, Salamat Ali, vice-chairman PHMA (NZ), said, "it was happily learnt that the Tehsil Officer has reduced a large number of taxes/fees etc, which were imposed on hosiery SME units.
Undoubtedly, it gave a great relief to the business community, but unfortunately, a number of PHMA members have received notices from the Tehsil Officer for recovery of these taxes.
Salamat Ali said: "The hosiery industry in particular is now under immense pressure in international market." He further said: "Our competitors China, India and Bangladesh are enjoying a lot of incentives and subsidies from their respective authorities.
In order to compete them in international market we have also demanded similar relief and incentives so that the industry may not collapse due to immense pressure."
He mentioned that under these circumstances, the concerned authorities have been requested to immediately suspend/stop the recovery of arbitrary taxes/fees from hosiery units.
