Egypt's Sugar and Integrated Industries Company (SIIC) received offers to sell it 30,000 tonnes of raw sugar at between $241 and $281 per tonne, a senior official from the state-owned company said on Monday. He also said the firm would announce its decision, whether to buy or cancel, on Tuesday.
"We were offered between $241 and $281 per tonne (of raw sugar) from about five bidders," the official said, without giving further details.
The official previously said SIIC was looking for offers of around $200 per tonne. The deadline for participating in the tender was Saturday. "Maybe we buy. Maybe we will cancel. We will announce the result tomorrow," he said.
Traders said the state-owned sugar monopoly was hoping for an unrealistically low price.
